Why I Became A Financial Advisor

By Steve Hoover

There’s no denying it: money, and how you handle it, can make or break your life (and your stress levels). I saw firsthand the importance of financial planning and the difficulties created by poor planning by observing my father’s work as an estate planning attorney. Over and over again, I witnessed his clients face financial problems that could have been avoided with proper planning. This experience impacted me greatly and is the primary inspiration behind my decision to become a financial advisor.

My Career Journey

I joined the financial industry in 1996 and worked for a prominent investment and insurance firm. Not only did I gain valuable experience and knowledge, but I also saw a deep need for personalized service. There are plenty of ways to get financial information, but what people need most is advice tailored to their unique situation, not a menu of 10 options for them to choose from. I found that when prospective clients seek out a financial professional, they want someone who will guide them to the decisions that benefit them most.

That realization motivated me to open my own practice in 2003. Wealth Partners Corporation was founded to help people feel confident about their money. Now, 17 years later, as president of Wealth Partners Corporation, I spend my days developing individualized plans for each client. I focus on implementing long-term financial strategies that help them meet their future retirement goals while also addressing challenges and risks that may come up along the way.

Hurdles And Triumphs

I wouldn’t trade my job for the world, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t face difficult days and situations. Not everyone sees the importance of investing in a comprehensive financial plan, and it can be a challenge to motivate people to take action in their financial life. Because of my early experiences watching my father’s clients face financial stress and hardship in a time of grief, it’s both bittersweet yet inspiring when a client can rely on their financial plan to function just as it was intended when they pass away or lose a spouse, so they have one less thing to worry about.
